"Diversity makes for a rich tapestry. All the
threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color"
~Maya Angelou It is time for
parents to teach young people early on that in diversity there is beauty
and there is strength.

"I feel my heart break to see a nation ripped
apart by
its own greatest strength--its diversity."

We have become not a melting pot but a
beautiful mosaic. Different people, different beliefs, different
yearnings, different hopes, different dreams.

“If we are to achieve a richer
culture, rich in contrasting values, we must recognize the whole gamut of
human potentialities, and so weave a less arbitrary social fabric, one in
which each diverse human gift will find a fitting place.”

“I haven’t always been comfortable
with ceremony, but as the day of our civil union ceremony approached, I
came to realize that ceremony is significant in some deep and mysterious
way that I can’t begin to understand. It is one of the things that defines
us as human beings. Uniting in marriage is recognized as one of the most
important and sacred moments in any person’s life. Our exclusion from the
marriage ceremony has wounded us deeply and has served to keep us separate
from the human family in this aspect until now. I feel that this was a
ceremony of healing as well as a declaration of our commitment to one
another. I wish to thank the good people who struggled to make this moment
possible and those who acknowledge and support us as members of the human
family in the fullest sense.”
